John Stamos Says Truth On “Full House” & How Much He “Hated That Show”!

John Stamos bared his truth about the hit family sitcom “Full House”, and to the surprise of many fans, the actor said he did not like the show, and in fact, hated it and tried to leave at a point.

Stamos who starred on “Full House” from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s as Uncle Jesse, made the shocking revelation on last week’s episode of the talk show “Hot Ones“.

“I hated that show,” he said, recalling that he was initially pitched to be similar to “Bosom Buddies,” the short ’80s comedy starring Peter Scolari and Tom Hanks, but “with a couple of kids in the background.”

Stamos said that at the time, he felt like “the star” of the series show and had an attitude in the early stages of production, so when his co-star Jodie Sweetin, who was then just a child, upstaged him during the first reading, his ego plummeted.

“Jodie Sweetin, who plays Stephanie (Tanner), reads her lines, and people are cracking up, I mean screaming,” Stamos said, adding, “I couldn’t even hear my lines, they were laughing at her so much, and I was kind of hunched over in my seat.”

Stamos said he decided to give it a try with the help of his late co-star Bob Saget, and a little support from his agent.

“I fought against it for a long time and finally said, ‘What am I doing?’ It is a beautiful series built with sweetness and kindness,” he said, adding that he came to the conclusion that “the central character was love” and that “we were the best representation of a loving family – not a normal family – and it was the new normal”.

The “Full House” show aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995 and was based on Saget’s character Danny Tanner, a widower raising his three daughters with the help of Stamos’ “Uncle Jesse” Katsopolis and his friend Joey Gladstone, acted by Dave Coulier.

Stamos also starred in the Netflix remake of “Full House” – “Fuller House,” which premiered in 2016 and ran for five seasons.
