Manchester United finished the 2022-23 Premier League season in 3rd place after rallying up to win Fulham 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Fulham had the lead in the 19th minute when Kenny Tete angled in a near-post header from a corner from Willian and lost an opportunity to double their score seven minutes later when Aleksandar Mitrovic’s spot kick was saved by David de Gea. However, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes came through with goals for Manchester United.
Jadon Sancho scored in the 39th minute with a simple close-range shot, then Fred’s pass which went through Fullam’s defense set up Bruno Fernandes to score the 55th-minute goal and end the match as winner.
Erik ten Hag’s side finished the 2022-23 Premier League season in third place, while Fulham ended in 10th for their first top-half finish since 2012.
Cairney almost equalized the game in the 76th minute from an attempt that went over the crossbar, before an unmarked Wout Weghorst missed a gilt-edged opportunity to end his loan spell in Manchester with a goal.
Man United will now focus on next week’s FA Cup final, in which they will face rivals Manchester City, where they -in third place, will aim to win a second trophy of the season, adding to their Carabao Cup victory in February.
“There is still one game to go so, and I am sure that these players will give everything to beat Manchester City next week. So we need it from you as well,” Ten Hag told fans at Old Trafford.
“Thank you for everything. I am sure we have a really good chance to take the cup back to Old Trafford.”
