The Police have arrested the suspected gunman of the Wednesday shooting in an Atlanta hospital office building, after hours of trailing him.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, the alleged gunman, identified as 24 years old Deion Patterson, was arrested in Cobb County, northwest of the city.
He will be facing charges related to the shooting that killed a 39-year-old woman and injured four other women at the Northside Hospital Midtown Medical building – three of which are in critical condition.
The severely injured women were being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
According to Dr. Robert Jansen, the hospital’s chief of staff, who briefed the media Wednesday, one of the victims was still in the operating theater as of 5 p.m. ET.
The injured women were aged between 25 to 71 years. According to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, It’s unclear if these victims were specifically targeted by the gunman or if they are employees or patients of the medical practice, however further investigations are being done.
According to the police, the shooting started at around noon after the alleged shooter who had an appointment in the hospital, came with his mother.
After the shooting, Deion Patterson fled on foot to a Shell gas station which was close by where he stole a pickup truck that was left running.
Police tracked the truck to Cobb County, and their search was further narrowed to a building near a shopping area by Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves baseball team. It was there that they found and arrested Patterson.
Several law enforcement agencies from the Atlanta region as well as federal agencies were involved in the investigation and the subsequent manhunt leading to his arrest.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum also thanked the many eyewitnesses who called to report seeing the fleeing suspect.
