Coach Niall Horan spoke about his candidate and contestant – Gina Miles, who won “The Voice” title for season 23.
Speaking with People, Horan said “Can you imagine being 19 and winning the biggest TV show in the country? I’m so proud of this girl. I always had a deep down feeling”, reflecting on the moment Miles was called a winner.
“This girl is beyond gifted. There’s a tone in there that is, as I’ve always said, unmistakable and you know it’s a Gina Miles song when you hear it — that’s going to be the case down the line. I just couldn’t believe it when Carson [Daly] threw her name out of his mouth”.
“I couldn’t believe it. On that stage at any point, it’s one in five chance that anyone could win it here at this point. Gina Miles. She did it,” the 29-year-old “Heaven” singer added
Gina Miles, on her part, thought she won’t win. “Couldn’t think I was going to win, so I was just having a really good time and laughing and not crying — and then now I’m crying.”
“It was just really crazy, I didn’t think they would call my name,” she told Access Hollywood. “Everybody had crazy performances since the beginning of the blinds, so I think everybody did really well and I’m happy to be here.”
Miles won the trophy with Team Blake’s Grace West coming in runner-up, after a two-hour finale with five contestants.
Her victory secured Horan’s spot as a first-time winner in his first season as a coach. He will return for season 24 alongside Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and John Legend.
“I always kinda knew what she was capable of, from her first audition when she was like a nervous wreck. I just knew she had a tone that would really spike the nations interest and a voice like that just stands out. The way she’s like constantly been herself on camera all the time, everywhere she’s been, it just speaks to people. I’m just so happy for her,” Horan also said of Miles.
