Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter Asks Biden To Read Special Speech When He Dies

Former United States President Jimmy Carter has requested President Joe Biden to deliver a special tribute upon his death.

Biden might have mistakenly made the revelation to attendees at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Rancho Santa Fe, California, as he talked about the efforts and progress made in the research for the prevention and treatment of cancer.

“He asked me to do his eulogy,” Biden said, before appearing to catch himself and adding, “excuse me, I shouldn’t say that.”

“I spent time with Jimmy Carter, and it’s finally caught up with him. But they found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated, because they found a breakthrough,” Biden added.

According to the White House, Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter have known each other since 1976. That year, Biden, who was then a senator, became the first elected official outside of Georgia to endorse Carter’s run for president.

Carter won the election, but after his first term, he lost reelection to Ronald Reagan in 1980. Carter worked to advance democracy and health initiatives around the world — for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States of America from 1977 to 1981. He also served as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975 and as a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967.
