Lyrics from Miley Cyrus’ newly released song titled “Flowers” has sparked rumors that the single was about the extra-marital affairs of her former husband, Liam Hemsworth, who was said to have cheated on her during their marriage.
Cyrus met Hemsworth while she was filming “The Last Song” in 2009 and they both walked the red carpet as a couple at the film’s premiere in 2010. Their relationship went through a series of breakups, before getting engaged in 2012, but that engagement was even called off in 2013.
They came back together in 2017 and got married on December 23, 2018. However, on August 2019, just nine months later, the couple announced their divorce.
However, Miley Cyrus new single, Flowers, which was released on January 13, 2023, the same day as her ex-husband Hemsworth’s birthday, is creating some controversy on social media.
Cyrus’ song, Flowers, was based on an ended relationship and its lyrics include: “We were good, we were gold/ Kinda dream that can’t be sold/ We were right ’til we weren’t/ Built a home and watched it burn,” and: “I can buy myself flowers/ Write my name in the sand/ Talk to myself for hours/ Say things you don’t understand.”
Many claim that the lyrics were a direct reference to Bruno Mars’ 2012 song “When I Was Your Man,” the chorus of which says, “I should have bought you flowers/ And held your hand/ Should have gave you all my hours/ When I had the chance.”
Some social media users also said that dedicated the Bruno Mar’s song (When I Was Your Man) to Cyrus at their wedding, while others opine it was dedicated when they got engaged.
However, given that the song is a breakup song, it might make little sense for it to be used on an engagement or wedding celebration.
The news of Liam Hemsworth cheating on Miley Cyrus started when a Twitter account called Pop Tingz (@ThePopTingz) posted a tweet saying, “The house where the music video for Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ was recorded was previously used by Liam Hemsworth to cheat on Miley with more than 14 women while they were married.”
The tweet quickly went viral with over 4.6 million views.

Miley Cyrus never agreed nor did she deny that her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth cheated on her when they were married, she only cleared speculations on why her marriage with him ended. In a 2019 tweet, she said;
“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade,” the singer told her followers, of which she now has 46.8 million.”
“I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”
Hemsworth is currently dating Gabriella Brooks, while Cyrus is allegedly in a relationship with Maxx Morando.
In another news, Gloria Gaynor praised Miley Cyrus on her new song, saying the single “carries the touch”.
“Your new song carries the torch of empowerment and encourages everyone to find strength in themselves to persevere and thrive. Well done Miley!”
Gloria posted a clip of Miley’s music video, as a show of support for her new single and upcoming album ‘Endless Summer Vacation.’
Miley’s song comes at the same time as Shakira’s new breakup anthem, in which she references her controversial split from Gerard Piqué.
