Following Argentina defeating Croatia 3-0 in the ongoing World Cup games, Messi’s fans can’t find a better point to prove that he is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina’s national football team, and Julián Álvarez lead the squad into winning Croatia, three goals to none, to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.
Julián Álvarez rang the bells for the goals to begin when he faced the Croatian goalkeeper, Dominik Livaković, one-on-one. Dominik resorted to bringing the striker down, earning Argentina a penalty.
Messi played the penalty kick and did what he does best; earning the first goal for his team.
Álvarez, seemingly not satisfied with giving his credit to Messi, shot his way through the midfield, dribbling the Croatians and shooting the ball into their net.
And in the 69th minute, Messi used the right flank, to dribble past the Croatians again and fed Julián Álvarez the pass, who promptly delivered it into the net.
In total, Messi had scored 5 goals and given 3 assists since the beginning of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, bringing him to the top of the player with the most goals scored in the tournament. He has also played in 25 World Cup matches and ranks for all-time FIFA appearances. Argentina had only lost one of its last 41 international football matches.
With Messi’s stellar performance leading Argentina well ahead into the World cup, fans trend on social media that he is better than Cristiano Ronaldo and that he is the GOAT in football.
Ronaldo and his Portugal team were eliminated by Morocco. A video clip after the match captured him crying as he left the pitch.
France and Morocco will play on Wednesday and the winner will face Argentina on Sunday while the loser will play against Croatia on Saturday for the semifinals.
