Australian actress, Erica Hoy has died in a ghastly motor accident while traveling with her family on a road trip on the Port River Expressway in the Australian city of Gillman on Tuesday evening.
Hoy was only 26 when she was killed and the crash seriously injured three other people, including her twin.
Carlie Eileen Richards, 38, who allegedly caused the car crash on Wednesday was subject to a bedside hearing from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide.
She was considered unfit to be physically present in the court hearing which is why there was a video transmission.
Police alleged in court Richards’ dangerous driving caused the death of Hoy and the serious injury of her twin sister Lisa, boyfriend Mike Reader, 29, and another driver, Klio Bruckner.
She has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, three charges of causing harm by dangerous driving, leaving the scene of the accident, and two counts of driving without due care.
Richards was taken to the hospital to a certain if she had serious injuries and to ensure that she was being treated well before she was taken to the police custody.
Erica’s father was full of admiration for his daughter and her career achievements.
“She never gave us anything to worry about. I’m glad she didn’t pass away alone.”
“She was a bright, happy, positive young girl. She was coming back from an acting course … when it happened.”
Photographer and friend of the family Peter Hall, who had spoken to Lisa in the hospital was distraught. He said:
“They were soulmates, a unique artistic partnership. I’m just devastated by what has been taken away well before it was time.”
“There were more adventures ahead. They came as a package pair – when they were working together, it was truly unique.”
“It was like working with one person even though there were two people – and yet they were also individuals in their own right.”
