After watching his team defeat Real Mallorca 1-0 on Saturday in La Liga, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez singled out goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and striker Robert Lewandowski for praise.
Lewandowski’s spectacular goal was the game’s lone tally, as Ter Stegen secured another shutout for his team. The German international captured everyone’s attention in the first half with a crucial stop against Jaume Costa.
According to Diario AS, Xavi addressed the media following the game and emphasized how crucial the two players’ contributions were to his team’s triumph at Son Moix.
“It would not be right to explain everything with Ter Stegen and Lewandowski, there is more to it than that,” he said. “Although it’s clear that they have made the difference tonight. Marc is in spectacular form. And Robert is a world-class goal scorer, maybe the best in the world.”
Since coming to Barcelona from Bayern Munich in the summer, Lewandowski has scored nine goals in La Liga, and Xavi acknowledged that the Poland international practically ensures goals for his team.
“He has made a difference, yes. But also the defensive line. But there are other key aspects. It has been a game in which we have not shone but we took the victory,” he added. “He is a guarantee, but I always think that everyone can make a difference. Lewandowski is a guarantee of success and goals.”
With their sixth straight La Liga victory, Barcelona is now atop the standings ahead of Sunday’s match between Real Madrid and Osasuna.
