Regarding a private interaction she had with Matthew Perry many years ago, Valerie Bertinelli weighs in.
The actor discussed his brief collaboration with the Food Network host on the sitcom Sydney in his most recent book, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. Valerie, who was formerly wed to Eddie Van Halen of the musical group Van Halen, once brought Matthew over to their house. Eddie drank wine with them and they kissed after he went asleep.
Valerie went to TikTok to share a subtly worded confirmation as the tale spread online. In the post from October 26, she asked, “Anyone behave badly in their 20s and early 30s?” Are you embarrassed?
When Valerie’s fans learned who she was alluding to, they responded in the comments section about how she had affected Matthew’s life three decades later.
In the biography, Matthew would later write that Valerie “made no mention” of the incident’s aftermath and carried on as if nothing had happened the day before. I promptly picked up on the suggestion and also performed the duties that were expected of me, he wrote. But on the inside, I was in despair.
Despite the heartache he had in his dating life, Matthew eventually landed his breakthrough role with Friends in September 1994. Although they eventually got a divorce in 2007, Valerie and Eddie remained close until the musician’s passing in October 2020.
