In the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the Flamingoes overcame the United States of America to go to the semi-final.

To go to the semifinals for the first time, the Nigerian women defeated the American women 5-4 on penalties.

After a 1-1 stalemate in regulation, the game went to penalties.

Before the Americans scored a goal back just before halftime, Nigeria’s Edafe Omamuso opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Both teams played in a close game in the second half, trying in vain to take the lead.

Nigeria won the subsequent round of penalties, 5-4.
