Prior to Thursday evening’s group match against Real Betis, Roma administrator Tiago Pinto acknowledged the club’s motivation to turn around its Europa League fortunes.
With three points, the Giallorossi are currently third in Group C, six points behind Spain and one point behind Ludogorets.
“This competition is always an objective for us. Look at what we did in Europe last season,” he told Sky Sport.
“The Europa League is more competitive but tonight we’re going to give all of our strength, energy, and motivation in order to put in a good performance.”
Pinto also discussed the team’s scoring issues and his thoughts on Tammy Abraham and Andrea Belotti making their season debuts together.
“Of course I expected more up front from our attack. Attackers lose confidence when they don’t find the back of the net and it makes things more complicated for them.”
“Look at Lautaro Martinez: he didn’t score in 6-7 matches but yesterday he scored a crucial goal for Inter. The team is creating a lot of goalscoring opportunities and hopefully we can take advantage of these chances.”
“As for Belotti, tonight is a great chance for him. He’s worked well since joining and I think it’s a good opportunity for him to show why he acquired him.”
Adding, “But now isn’t the time to put too much pressure on any single individual in the team.”
