Lin-Manuel Miranda, a Broadway star and the award-winning Hamilton’s creator, is the most recent famous person to support Beto O’Rourke, a Democratic contender for governor. On Tuesday, October 18, he made an appearance at a rally in Houston, encouraging the approximately 2,000 attendees to support O’Rourke.
The Democratic candidate for attorney general, Rochelle Garza, was also supported by Miranda at the Escapade 2001 get-out-the-vote event on the Eastex Freeway. He emphasized how, if elected, she would be Texas’ first Latina attorney general. He also discussed how he had to overcome difficult obstacles when he entered the Broadway scene, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Celebrities have been endorsing O’Rourke frequently. Six-time Grammy Award winner Kacey Musgraves featured O’Rourke during her performance at Austin City Limits last weekend. After performing at ACL, Paramore’s lead singer Hayley Williams also posted a picture of O’Rourke on her Instagram story. When she and O’Rourke were talking about how “young people in Texas are going to transform the future,” she uploaded a photo of them together.
Most notably, pop star Harry Styles supported O’Rourke after displaying a “Beto for Texas” sticker on his guitar earlier this month during one of his performances at Austin’s Moody Center. Along with Willie Nelson, Hollywood power couple Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, and actor Mark Ruffalo, best known for his role as The Hulk in The Avengers movies, O’Rourke received support from these celebrities.
The first day of early voting is Monday, October 24. November 8 is election day.
