On someone who entered the field, Bobby Wagner delivered one of the most powerful blows.
Late in the second quarter of Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers, a protester with a gadget that produced pink smoke ran onto the field and was quickly taken down by a Rams defender.
“I just saw someone running on the field,” Wagner said. “It looked like he wasn’t supposed to be on the field so I saw security was having a problem so I helped them out.”
The person entered the field with less than a minute left in the first half and rushed across while being pursued by security as pink smoke engulfed the field.
Linebacker Takkarist McKinley approached the person as he went toward the Rams’ sideline, then Wagner rushed in from the sideline and delivered a powerful blow that knocked the man out.
“I saw Bobby Wagner taking somebody out,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “I thought that was kind of cool to see.”
The protester was taken off the field by security and the game quickly resumed.
Earlier in the game, another person tried to get onto the field with a similar device, but was stopped by security.
