Director of AC Milan Ricky Massara emphasized the direction of football while insisting that he and the team are “happy” with their efforts throughout the summer transfer window.
After winning the Scudetto last year, Milan was always expected to compete at the top of the league again, but Napoli’s chances varied greatly as a result of a busy offseason that saw three of their potentially greatest players go. They will square off tonight with each having 14 points after six games.
Before the match against Napoli, Massara was asked about the business Milan was able to do over the summer during an interview with DAZN. MilanNews relayed his response, which is translated below.
“Napoli did well. We are satisfied, we are convinced that we have a competitive team. We are happy,” he said.
“The characteristics of football are increasingly moving towards speed and quality, whoever has more strength in their legs can make a difference. Pioli is doing a great job, he has made all the players grow.”
Although there are some noticeable absences for the match against the Partenopei, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Divock Origi, and Ante Rebic are all injured, which diminishes the depth in the attacking department. Rafael Leao is also suspended after receiving a red card in the most recent league game.
On Leao, Massara said: “He has attacking characteristics, Krunic will give more balance. We lose some speed, but we gain balance.”
Finally, on the game itself: “I don’t know if it’s a season-defining challenge, but it’s a great game. We expect a great show, they are two strong teams. The title is still a long way off, but it will be a difficult test that both teams want to overcome.”
