The ensemble of “Dumb Money,” a forthcoming movie on the GameStop stock market explosion last year, will feature Pete Davidson, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Sebastian Stan.
“Dumb Money,” which is directed by Craig Gillespie and is based on the nonfiction book “The Antisocial Network” by Ben Mezrich, was written by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum. In addition to directing Rogen and Stan in multiple episodes of the Hulu limited series “Pam & Tommy” this year, Gillespie previously worked with Stan in his 2017 film “I, Tonya.” Together with Teddy Schwarzman and Ryder Picture Company, Gillespie creates.
The “short squeeze” movement that took place around GameStop in January 2021 is the subject of the movie “Dumb Money,” which focuses on it. Wall Street Bets users joined forces to artificially inflate GameStop’s stock value, which had lagged for years.
Major hedge funds and independent short sellers suffered substantial financial losses as a result of the circumstance, which led to calls for increased stock market regulation. The project, which centers on the Reddit users who created the short squeeze, will start shooting in September.
The movie will be entirely financed by Black Bear Pictures, and Black Bear International will handle the rights for international distribution. The feature’s sales will begin in September at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.
