Trey Lance, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was carted off the field on Sunday after hurting his right ankle.
During the second drive of the game against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance was injured after carrying the ball. Lance was put into an air cast before being hauled off in a cart that was brought out onto the playing field. He was not coming back, according to the 49ers.
Before being replaced by former starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, Lance’s colleagues and numerous Seahawks players offered him respect.
After being selected third overall in the 2021 draft, Lance replaced Garoppolo as the starter this year.
Prior to deciding to return as a backup quarterback on a reduced contract this season, Garoppolo didn’t throw with the team throughout training camp and instead practiced alone on a side field.
Depending on how long Lance is out injured, he may now have an opportunity at a bigger role.
