On Wednesday, the Atlanta Braves made a number of moves that included promoting top prospect Vaughn Grissom to the majors and placing second baseman Orlando Arcia on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left hamstring.
In two levels of the Atlanta Braves’ minor league system, the infielder Grissom, 21, has hit.324 with an.899 OPS. He is currently playing for Double-A Mississippi, where he was hitting.363 in 22 games. In the minors this season, he has 14 home runs and 67 RBIs.
As Arcia is on the injured list and Ozzie Albies is still out with a fractured left foot, Grissom, who has played shortstop, third base, and second base in the minors, will probably play largely second base in the big.
In the game against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night, Grissom is batting ninth and playing second base.
The Braves have brought up their top prospect from Double-A to the majors twice this season. The Braves called up fellow 21-year-old center fielder Michael Harris II from Mississippi in May.
In the major leagues, he has a.288 average, 10 home runs, and 34 RBIs while also playing outstanding center field defense.
Tuesday night, during the 10th inning of the Braves’ 9-7 11-inning victory over the Red Sox, Arcia was hurt while sprinting to second base.
The Braves also reactivated right-handed reliever Kirby Yates from his rehab assignment in addition to placing Arcia on the IL.
