On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies made separate transactions with the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels to acquire closer David Robertson and outfielder Brandon Marsh.
In exchange for Marsh, the Angels received minor league catcher Logan O’Hoppe, while the Cubs received minor league pitcher Ben Brown.
In simultaneous actions, the Phillies announced that struggling reliever Jeurys Familia and outfielder Odubel Herrera had been designated for assignment.
Robertson, 37, is currently experiencing a comeback year. For the far below-.500 Cubs, he has accumulated 14 saves, a 2.23 ERA, and just 23 hits allowed in 4013 innings.
For the Phillies, who have been without a center fielder for the majority of the season, Marsh will probably take over in that position.
Marsh, 24, is making contact.
226 hits this season, including eight home runs and 37 RBIs.
Before suffering an elbow injury, Robertson pitched for the Phillies in 2019 and finished the season with a 0-1 record and a 5.40 ERA in 623 innings.
22-year-old O’Hoppe is hitting.
269 hits this year in Double-A Reading, including 15 home runs and 45 RBIs.
Brown, 22, has made 16 appearances (15 starts) for High-A Jersey Shore and has a 3.08 ERA.
In 34 innings pitched this year, the 32-year-old Familia, who was signed by the Phillies in the summer, has a 6.09 ERA. Meanwhile, Herrera is hitting.238 this year with five home runs and 21 RBIs.
