On Sunday, Miles Mikolas pitched eight scoreless innings and Albert Pujols hit two home runs to help the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3. For St. Louis, who increased its advantage over second-place Milwaukee in the National League Central to 112 games, Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neill also scored.
With his eighth home run of the year, a shot to left field off Taylor Rogers (1-6), Carlson broke a 2-all deadlock in the eighth inning. The Milwaukee Brewers defeated St. Louis 3-2 in 10 innings on Saturday night with to home runs from Hunter Renfroe and Rowdy Tellez.
Albert Pujols added to his 689 career home runs with a solo shot in the second and a three-run blast in the eighth. He tied Willie Mays for fifth place all-time with his 63rd career multihomer game.
In what he has declared to be his final season, Pujols has 10 home runs and 30 RBIs. For the 21st time in his career, Pujols has hit at least 10 home runs.
Albert Pujols not only performed admirably on the field, but he also provided some insightful counsel to the hitters before to the game.
Even the opposition was impressed by Pujols, a frequent starter against left-handed pitchers.
Mikolas (9-9) gave up four hits and two runs. He walked none and struck out six times. Mikolas had just had a difficult outing. In Tuesday’s 16-5 loss to Colorado, he allowed 10 runs.
The season series is now 8-7 in favor of St. Louis. There are still four games between the two teams.
