The Six Flags Great America amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, and the police have verified that three individuals were hurt in a shooting that occurred in the parking lot on Sunday night.
According to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department, the Gurnee Police Department responded to numerous 911 callers reporting gunfire at the Six Flags park at around 8 p.m.
According to police, their early investigation revealed that a car had pulled into the parking lot, the suspects got out near the park’s main entrance, and then started firing at another person.
The suspects then drove away from the crime scene. According to authorities, two patients, ages 17 and 19, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening leg injuries.
A third person was hurt but chose not to go to the hospital.
According to the park’s communication expert Rachel Kendziora, the Gurnee Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office were both in charge of the situation Sunday night.
In response to the incident, the park had to close early, according to Kendziora.
According to Gurnee authorities, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System was helping to rid the Six Flags theme park of visitors and employees.
About one hour’s drive north of Chicago is the city of Gurnee.
