At Texas’ Dallas Love Field Airport on Monday, a lady is believed to have fired numerous bullets into the air before being shot by police and taken into custody, according to Dallas Police.

According to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, the incident started at around 11 a.m. when a 37-year-old woman entered the airport close to the ticket counters after arriving there.

He claimed that after using the restroom, she returned wearing a sweatshirt, pulled out a weapon, and started shooting, seemingly with the intention of hitting the ceiling.

She was shot in the lower extremities by a responding police, who then arrested her and took her to the hospital. Garcia reported that no one else was hurt.

According to a statement from the police, the suspect is Portia Odufuwa. At this moment, it is unclear if Odufuwa has a lawyer.

As people ran, the incident ignited mayhem. Michael Loewinsohn had just arrived at the airport from Denver on a flight when the commotion started. He was heading toward baggage claim.

Because of safety concerns, the Federal Aviation Administration implemented a ground stop at the airport.

Operations were halted for a number of hours on Monday afternoon, and once it was resolved, airport officials advised travellers to verify the status of their flights with the airlines.

The Transportation Security Administration reports that airport security checkpoint activities have also started up again.

According to its website, Dallas Love Field Airport is about 6 miles northwest of downtown Dallas and primarily serves Southwest Airlines.

Portia Odufuwa: Lady Behind Dallas Love Field Airport Shooting

In June 202, Odufuwa was referred to outpatient mental health services by Dallas County Judge Kristin Wade after she was deemed unable to stand trial in a misdemeanor case. Odufuwa was charged with sounding the fire alarm in the absence of a danger. Odufuwa’s mental state might have changed since then, and Wade could not be reached for comment.
