According to a National Park Service press release, another set of human remains was discovered in Lake Mead on Monday as the reservoir’s water levels continue to drop.

At around 4:30 p.m. PT, park rangers responded to a report of human remains discovered in Boulder City, Nevada’s Swim Beach area, according to the press release.

The statement also said, “park rangers are on the scene and have established a perimeter to gather the remains.”

The park service reported that the Clark County Medical Examiner is helping to identify the cause of death.

As the greatest reservoir in the nation has drained to unprecedented levels, this is at least the third body discovered nearby Lake Mead.

The park service reported that the Clark County Medical Examiner is helping to identify the cause of death.

Lake Mead: The First Corpse Found

On May 1st, the first body was found in a barrel. Authorities report it was likely a murder victim killed by a gunshot wound “some time in the mid ’70s to early ’80s, based on clothing and footwear the victim was found with,” according to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Additionally, previously submerged boats have been made visible by the receding seas, including a World War II landing craft last month.

The water level of Lake Mead was 1,040 feet as of Tuesday, which is nearly 174 feet lower than it was in 2000 when it was last regarded as full. Since the reservoir was filled in the 1930s, this is the lowest level ever recorded for it.
