Since the April 19 drawing, when the estimated annuitized $20 million prize first became available, Tuesday’s drawing will be the 29th in the current Mega Millions jackpot run.
Since the game’s projected $1.05 billion second-highest jackpot payout, which was won by an out-of-state player, on January 22, 2021, this is the largest Mega Millions jackpot that has been up for grabs.
Since it began participating in the game in 2003, Texas has had 13 Mega Millions jackpot prize winners.
The most recent jackpot winner was a Leander resident who took home the highest prize ever awarded to a single Texas Lottery player in September 2019 after taking home an estimated annuitized $227 million.
How Is Mega Millions Drawings Played
To play Mega Millions Drawings, you must select five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from another field of 25 numbers.
Players must match every single one of the six numbers selected, including the Mega Ball, to win the Mega Millions jackpot. Even if they don’t hit the jackpot, players with fewer matching numbers may still come out ahead.
The current Mega Millions beginning jackpot is $20 million, and the second-tier (Match 5+0) payout is $1 million. For an additional $1 each Play, players can add the Megaplier® feature, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, or 5 times, allowing them to win up to $5 million.
