Actor Tony Dow from Leave It to Beaver is still alive despite his reps incorrectly posting a message on Facebook on Tuesday morning, announcing his death from liver cancer.
Several important news organizations, including The New York Times, CNN, and HuffPost, reported on the comment, which has now been removed.
Dow, who portrayed Wally Cleaver in the 1950s comedy Leave It to Beaver, is presently in hospice and is still alive, according to TMZ.
In an interview with ABC Eyewitness News’ George Pennacchio, Lauren Shulkind, the wife of Tony Dow, confirmed that Tony Dow was in hospice and not dead as reported.
However, Shulkind tweeted and “inferred that Tony passed away” because of health problems he was having overnight.
After Dow’s managers, Frank Bilotta and Renee James, wrongly announced his passing this morning, tributes to Dow began to stream in on social media on Tuesday from admirers and former coworkers, including his Leave It to Beaver sibling, Jerry Mathers.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share with you the passing of our beloved Tony this morning,” wrote Bilotta.
“He was a beautiful soul – kind, compassionate, funny and humble. It was truly a joy to just be around him. His gentle voice and unpretentious manner was immediately comforting and you could not help but love him.”
