By becoming the first Georgia native to win in Atlanta on Sunday along with his father, Chase Elliot created history.
Elliott’s Quaker State 400 victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway was seen by a sizable crowd.
With a powerful block that sent Corey Lajoie flying into the wall, Chase successfully held off Lajoie down the stretch.
In his first eight visits to his home track, Chase was without a victory, but not anymore. His father, a native of Dawsonville, won five times at the storied Atlanta track, and Chase now has one as well.
The Elliotts are the only Georgia natives who have triumphed in an Atlanta Cup race.
