A recently elected congresswoman took to Twitter and claimed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi assaulted her young daughter during a picture op last week.
In a tweet with a video of the incident that took place during her swearing-in ceremony on June 21, Mayra Flores wrote, “I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen. No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!”
In the shared video, Nancy Pelosi glances down at Flores’ daughter who is standing next to her and extends her elbow at the same moment the toddler leans involuntarily to the side. The gesture was captured on camera as Pelosi waved to someone off-camera
Nancy Pelosi was officially welcoming the newly-elected Flores Mayra to the House of Representatives when the event happened.
She reportedly said, “It’s a great honour to welcome Congresswoman Flores to the Capitol and to the Congress of the United States with great congratulations. And again, grateful for her leadership and her beautiful family who is here today.”
Mayra Flores, the first congresswoman of Mexican descent, was also formally sworn in during the ceremony.
The event was concluded without any recorded hitch as the two MPs shook hands.
Flores, who is vocally pro-life, applauded the recent Roe vs Wade decision by the US Supreme Court.
