Four Inmates Who Escaped From A Federal Prison Camp In Virginia Are Still On The Loose

The search for four inmates who escaped from a federal prison camp near Hopewell, Virginia early Saturday morning is still ongoing.

Around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Corey Branch, Tavares Graham, Lamonte Willis, and Kareem Shaw were discovered missing from the Federal Correctional Complex Petersburg’s satellite camp.

The four inmates allegedly broke away from the federal minimum-security prison, which is roughly 22 miles southeast of Richmond.

For possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and possession of a handgun in the commission of a felony, Corey Branch, 41, was sentenced to 160 months in prison. Branch is a black man with brown eyes and black hair. He stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs around 200 pounds.

Tavares Lajuane Graham was sentenced to 120 months in prison for possessing over 500 grams of cocaine and over 28 grams of cocaine base with the intent to distribute. He was also charged with having a handgun in the course of committing a drug trafficking offence. Graham is a 44-year-old black man with brown eyes who is 44 years old. He stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 245 pounds.

For possessing and concealing a stolen firearm and possessing a firearm by a convicted felon, Lamonte Rashawn Willis was sentenced to 216 months in prison. Willis is a Black man in his 30s with brown eyes. He stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 165 pounds.

Kareem Allen Shaw was sentenced to 194 months in prison for conspiring to possess a quantifiable quantity of heroin with the purpose to distribute it. Shaw is a 46-year-old African-American man with brown eyes and black hair. He stands 5’8″ tall and weighs about 167 pounds.

According to the Bureau of Prisons, the Petersburg satellite camp houses 185 inmates and is one of dozens across the country. They are frequently located near or adjacent to the prison’s main facility and provide inmate labor to both the main institution and off-site employment programs.

An internal investigation is currently being conducted.

The US Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies have been alerted about the convicts’ escape and are assisting in the hunt.
