Reports have it that a former rebel identified as Gustavo Petro has emerged as the winner of the Columbia presidential election.

Petro earned a total of 50.48% votes as he defeats his opponent, Rodolfo Hernández who had 47.26% votes.

Following the victory, the elected president took to his verified Twitter page to celebrate as he writes;

“Today is a day of celebration for the people. Let them celebrate the first popular victory,”

“May so many sufferings be cushioned in the joy that today floods the heart of the Homeland.”
