As the multimillion-pound “Wagatha Christie” libel trial against Coleen Rooney got underway at the high court, Rebekah Vardy stated she truly regretted making unpleasant personal statements about Peter Andre in a newspaper interview.
The trial of the two footballer’s wives is taking place in a wood-paneled Victorian-era courthouse in central London, which has heard many major cases over the years – but this could be the first time that physiological issues have been explored in such detail.
With the leaking of private information at the heart of the much-anticipated case, Coleen Rooney’s lawyer, David Sherborne, questioned Vardy if she was the type of person who leaked tales to the media.
Following Vardy’s denial, the lawyer began reading portions from a 2004 interview Vardy gave to the News of the World about a rumored one-night stand she had with musician and performer Peter Andre.
“Peter’s hung like a wee chipolata… the smallest trouser equipment I’ve ever seen,” Vardy said in the interview, according to Sherborne.
“Did you feel particularly passionately about the size of his manhood that it should be made public?” the barrister asked after Vardy admitted she didn’t seek Andre’s permission to share this sensitive detail in a national newspaper.
Vardy stated that she “truly regrets” the incident and that her ex-husband forced her to give the tabloid interview against her will, a claim that the ex-husband has previously disputed.
