The ongoing court struggle between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard has vintage gossip reporters digging into their archives from the 1990s.
George Wayne, a former Vanity Fair columnist, said on Tuesday that he was the one who introduced Depp to ex-girlfriend Kate Moss.
When she arrived at the then-hot location Cafe Tabac in the East Village in 1994, Wayne claimed he “grabbed her hand and immediately escorted her to Johnny’s table.”
“I remember it like yesterday!” Wayne told Page Six when asked about the rendezvous. Every night, we were there. Cafe Tabac reminded me of the cafeteria of our high school.”
Wayne says, “It was I who introduced Kate and Johnny.”
Depp, 58, was eating dinner there for the first time when Moss, 48, and supermodel bestie Naomi Campbell arrived, according to Wayne.
“I had a conversation with him, and [Moss and Campbell] walked up the stairs about an hour later,” he recalled.
“I took her hand and marched her over to where Johnny was seated the moment I spotted her… After that, the rest is history. For the next four years, they didn’t leave each other.”
It was four years later.
“The rest, as they say, is history.” For the next four years, they didn’t leave each other.”
