The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has finally opened up on why they arrested the ex-Anambra governor, Rochas Okorocha.
It can be recalled that the anti-graft agency stormed Okorocha’s residence in Abuja in the early hours of Tuesday to arrest him.
The EFCC disclosed its reason for detaining the president aspirant through a statement approved by it spokesman identified as Wilson Uwujaren which explains that Okorocha failed to honor its invitations over an alleged fraud of 2.9 billion naira.
The full statement reads;
“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today May 24, 2022, arrived at the Maitama, Abuja home of a former governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, to effect his arrest.
“The move followed the refusal of the former governor to honour invitations after jumping the administrative bail earlier granted him by the Commission.
“In the circumstances, the Commission is left with no option than to effect the arrest of Senator Okorocha and bring him to trial.”
