A man dressed as an elderly woman in a wheelchair threw a cake at the Mona Lisa in Paris.
Security personnel at the Louvre Museum escorted the man away Sunday as he spoke in French about the planet, according to the video uploaded on social media.
Another video showed someone wiping the cake from the glass shielding the Mona Lisa, while witnesses recorded the incident on their phones.
According to the Associated Press, the 36-year-old guy was arrested and taken to a psychiatric facility.
Leonardo da Vinci painted the original Mona Lisa between 1503 and 1519. According to the Louvre’s website, the oil painting is displayed in the museum’s largest room.
This isn’t the first time the famous painting has caused controversy. After being damaged in an acid assault in the 1950s, the protective glass was installed.
The Mona Lisa vanished from the museum in 1911. There were no suggestions as to where it might be for more than two years until someone attempted to sell the picture to an Italian art dealer, who contacted authorities.
