In the horrible murder of a mother whose body was discovered in a duffel bag in Queens, a man has been arrested.
David Bonola, 44, was taken into arrest after being interviewed in connection with the death of 51-year-old Orsolya Gaal at the 112th NYPD precinct.
He’s now accused of murder, criminal tampering, and weapon possession.
Detectives decided to arrest him and were in his neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when he approached them and said, “I hear you’re looking for me.”
He then proceeded to make a full confession, according to reports.
Gaal had known Bonola from performing work on her property and knew where to get the key, allowing him to knife her to death as her 13-year-old son was upstairs, blissfully unaware of what was going on.
Bonola had been having an intimate affair with Gaal for about two years, according to a press briefing given by the police on Thursday morning.
“Mr. Bonola had an intimate relationship with our victim, according to us. And it appears that this was a domestic disagreement that they were having over their personal connection. Gaal was last seen in a bar around 11:45 a.m. on the night of her murder, around 12:30 a.m.
Bonola arrived approximately ten minutes later, authorities say, to speak with her about their connection. Either he was let in or he utilized a key hidden inside a barbeque to gain access. In the basement of the house, they had a fierce argument.
Gaal was stabbed “ruthlessly and viciously in excess of 55 times,” according to NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig.
Gaal was hauled through the neighborhood in a large duffel bag, leaving “a bloody trail through the streets of Forest Hills,” as Essig described it. Her body was abandoned by the Jackie Robinson Parkway in a bag.
The case is alleged to hinge on a surveillance image. It shows a guy lugging the bag just before daylight, which is said to be the Bonola.
Bonola allegedly escaped via the park after disposing of the body, where investigators located his jacket. During the investigation, they discovered bloody bandages and learnt that Bonola had had treatment at a local hospital for cuts to both hands, according to Essig.
Gaal’s husband was out of town with their older kid at the time of the murder, and their younger boy was in an upstairs bedroom.
After the murder, police suspect Bonola texted Gaal’s husband from her phone, referencing a previous crime and implying that the rest of the family was in danger.
Gaal’s husband and two children were not in any danger, according to police.
Bonola is said to have landed in the United States from Mexico 21 years ago.
