Osimhen Scores Two Historic Seria A Goals In Napoli’s Comeback Triumph

Victor Osimhen

With two critical goals, the Super Eagles forward picked up where he left off last Sunday.

With his brace on Saturday, Victor Osimhen became the first Nigerian footballer to score in double figure in two successive Serie A seasons.

With two second-half goals, Osimhen enabled Luciano Spaletti’s team come back from a goal down to beat Udinese 2-1.

After Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu scored the game’s first goal in the first half, Osimhen ignited his team’s comeback with a 52nd-minute header off Mario Rui’s cross.

Osimhen, the Napoli striker, scored his second goal three minutes after the hour-mark to put the Partenopeans ahead.

It was his third brace in Serie A this sea9son, and 99he has now accomplished something that past Nigerian stars like Obafemi Martins, Nwankwo Kanu, Ayo Makinwa and Obinna Nsofor have never done in the Italian top-flight.

He has 21 goals in 44 Serie A games after moving to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona from Lille in August 2020.

Osimhen spent the entire season with Napoli, alongside Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa of Cameroon and Kalidou Koulibaly of Senegal.

The win improved the Partenopeans’ Serie A title ambitions, as they moved ahead of AC Milan Rossoneri having a game in hand.

Following 30 matches, Napoli has 63 points, and their next league fixture is against Atalanta after the international break.

Osimhen’s run, which has seen him score four goals in his last two games, is encouraging for Nigeria ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter against Ghana on March 25 and 29.

Coach Austin Eguavoen has called up nine forwards, including Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Umar Sadiq and Victor Osimhen.
