Hundreds of thousands of Jews are expected to descend on a city near Tel Aviv on Sunday for the funeral of a prominent ultra-Orthodox Rabbi, according to Israeli officials.

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky was regarded as one of Israel’s most renowned religious leaders. At the age of 94, he passed away on Friday. He was one of the few ultra-Orthodox community leaders in Israel who was born before the Holocaust.

Kanievsky will be laid to rest at Bnei Brak, an ultra-Orthodox city east of Tel Aviv where he lived.

Several highways in Israel’s densely populated Tel Aviv area will be closed to traffic for several hours, according to police, and other major thoroughfares will be congested. It encouraged people not to travel to the area by car. Due to heavy traffic, the communications ministry predicted cellular network problems around the burial and recommended people to make only urgent calls.

Funerals are an important part of traditional Jewish life, and the funerals of prominent Rabbis can bring hundreds of mourners.
