Obituary: P.J. O’Rourke Dies At 74 Of Lung Cancer

Author and political satirist P.J. O’Rourke has passed away. He died yesterday, February 15, 2022.

Grove Atlantic, his publishers, made it known that his death resulted from lung cancer complications.

“P. J. was one of the major voices of his generation,” writes Morgan Entrekin, CEO, and Publisher of Grove Atlantic. “His insightful reporting, verbal acuity, and gift at writing laugh-out-loud prose were unparalleled.”

P.J. O’Rourke, aged 74, began his career writing for the National Lampoon. He later got a job at Rolling Stone, where he handled foreign affairs and world politics. He has also books classified as bestsellers.

Anya Grundmann, NPR’s senior vice president of programming, said in a statement: “This is a heartbreaking loss for all of us at NPR, our Member Stations, and the millions of public radio listeners who enjoyed hearing from P.J. O’Rourke as a Wait…Wait panelist and counted on his irreverent take on the news every week.

P.J. O’Rourke is survived by three kids and his wife, Tina O’Rourke.

News of O’Rourke’s death is coming on the heels of Bob Saget’s recent death.
