The National Communication Commission (NCC) has disclosed that a total of 63.97 million telephone numbers has been disconnected this year due to the National Identification Number (NIN) linkage.
The massive reduction in the numbers of active sim users has led to a flaw on the side of telecom companies due to the loss of its subscribers. According to Mtn Nigeria, “Mobile subscribers declined by 7.6 million to 68.9 million, impacted by the regulatory restrictions on new SIM sales and activations,”.
It was also recorded that in the last 14 months, active sim users dropped from 293,554,598 to 229,582,206.
