12 missionary members who were abducted since October 16, on their way back after visiting an orphanage home in Haiti, have reportedly made their escape successfully.
The missionaries who were initially 17 in number, where kidnapped by the notorious 400 Mawozo Gang in Haiti.
The gang then, requested for a ransom of one million dollars for each of the hostage.
Five of the hostages were released during the period that ensued. There is no report if any ransom was paid for the release of any of the hostages at any time.
However, the Christian Aid Mission (CAM) president said “people who sought to help us provided funds to pay a ransom and allow the negotiation process to continue”.
On how the 12 missionaries escaped the dreaded kidnappers den, the CAM spokesman, Weston Showalter said;
“When they sensed the timing was right, they found a way to open the door that was closed and blocked, filed silently to the path they [had] chosen to follow and left the place that they were held,”
The group then used the stars as a guide, as they wade through “woods and thickets, working through thorns and briars,” with an infant and a 10 month old baby all wrapped up for protection.
“After a number of hours of walking, day began to dawn and they eventually found someone who helped to make a phone call for help”
They escapees were later flown to Florida where they met the other 5 hostages who were released earlier.
