Following the terrible outbreak of cholera in a community under the Gwaram local government area of Jigawa State.
The local government has warned its residents over open defecation which was reported to have been the cause of the deadly disease. According to the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) coordinator, Mr. Mahmuda Hamza, he said;
“When people defecate in an open environment, during a raining season most of the water sources become contaminated
“As a result, the water people use for drinking and other day-to-day activities became contaminated which subsequently resulted in cholera outbreak and other diseases,”
To curb the widespread disease which has reportedly claimed the lives of many in the state, the Gwaram local government called for the distribution of preventive materials to the victims who have been hospitalized.
