President Moise Murder: Haiti Police Kill 4, Arrest 2 Suspects

We earlier reported that Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moise was killed and his wife was severely injured in an assassination operation. In a build-up to the story, it has now been reported that Haiti’s security operatives have killed four and arrested two suspected killers of the president.

Moise was killed at his private residence in the hills above Port-au-Prince by a group of unidentified individuals who were reportedly speaking Spanish.

The first lady, Martine Moise who is in critical condition after she suffered bullet wounds, had been evacuated to Miami for treatment.

 The Police General Director,  Leon Charles while giving an update, described the four people killed as “mercenaries” and said that security forces were locked in a fierce gun battle with the men.

Leon Charles was quoted saying “The police are engaged in a battle with the assailants” The Police chief made this statement at a news briefing, noting that the authorities were still in pursuit of other suspects.

In his words:

“We are pursuing them so that, in a gunfight, they meet their fate or in a gunfight they die, or we apprehend them.”

Similarly, the Haitian ambassador to the United States, Bocchit Edmond said the gunmen were well-trained “foreign mercenaries” and said they had masqueraded as U.S Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents as they entered Moise’s guarded home under the cover of darkness.
