After further deliberations, Facebook has reinstated that former US President, Donald Trump’s Facebook & Instagram accounts will remain banned. The ban will run for 2 years. It started effective on January 7, 2021, and will end in 2023.
On the expiration of the ban of Donald Trump’s social media accounts, Facebook will evaluate if he remains a threat.
“If we determine that there is still a serious risk to public safety, we will extend the restriction for a set period of time and continue to re-evaluate until that risk has receded.”
Facebook stated that Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram account might be banned permanently if the ex-President commits further violations.
“When the suspension is eventually lifted, there will be a strict set of rapidly escalating sanctions that will be triggered if Mr. Trump commits further violations in future, up to and including permanent removal of his pages and accounts,”
Donald Trump’s Facebook & Instagram account was banned after the then sitting President praised supporters who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
