Brigadier-General of the Nigerian Army, Ahmed Taiwo, who appeared before the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, to answer for the alleged shootings of unarmed protesters by the Nigerian Army in Lekki Tollgate, said that the order to “restore law and order” at the Lekki Toll Gate was given to them by Buhari!
He further stated that despite the fact that Sanwo-Olu called on the army to curb the ensuing crisis in his state, the sole power to deploy the army lies with the President.
He added that the Nigerian Army 65 Battalion under the 81 Division Garrison was deployed all over Lagos State, and not just to Lekki Toll Gate, in order to fish out hoodlums who were responsible for the break down of law and order, while other law-abiding citizens were indoors, observing the imposed curfew.
