After the unwarranted shooting of unarmed protesters at Lekki Tollgate, which resulted in the death of about 78 people and had dozens injured, the soldiers took a step further to ensure medical aid did not reach the injured by turning ambulances back.

This resulted in the rise of the death toll. Also, an unconfirmed number of dead bodies were reportedly carted away by the soldiers.
