Update: Will your bank accounts be banned if you don’t fill the Self Certification Form from FG

Nigerians were shocked when the Federal Government directed that all account holders fill a self-certification form, or risk their accounts been banned or monetarily penalized. This did not go down well as people are already sick of the various burdens such as the increase in electricity tariff and fuel pump price, heaped on them despite the economic hardship.

It also leaves one wondering the purpose of the BVN which every account holder has. Then why would such a secondary request be coming at such a time when there is a world-wide epidemic with no cure at hand. The goal now is to avoid all places of mass gathering if possible, to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus, but our Nigerian government wants us to converge like ants in various banking halls.

Well, after the backlashes, the Federal Government through the FIRS, retracted their statement and said it only applies to non-residents. It leaves one wondering how such misinformation was sent out in the first place.

At least, Nigerians have one less thing to worry about, for now.
